Howard Jones (American football coach)

Howard Harding Jones was an American football player and coach who served as the head coach at Syracuse University , Yale University , Ohio State University , the University of Iowa , Duke University and the University of Southern California , compiling a career record of 1946421. His 1909 Yale team and four of his USC teams won national championships. Jones coached USC in five Rose Bowls, winning all of them. Before coaching, Jones played football at Yale , where he played on three national titlewinning teams. He was a member of the inaugural class of inductees into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 1951 his younger brother Tad joined him as a member in 1958.

Jones was born in Excello, Ohio, near Middletown. He played football for three seasons at Yale University, from 1905 to 1907. During his three years, the Yale Bulldogs never lost a game, going 2802. Yale claims national championships for all three seasons.
